Some presumably British hackers calling themselves Pyknic struck NBC’s websites on Sunday, posting cryptic, sometimes obscene messages, including part of a poem referring to Britain’s Guy Fawkes Day (celebrated on November 5). “Remember, remember, the fifth of November / The Gunpowder Treason and plot.” The messages covered NBC’s homepage, video homepage, and the Saturday Night Live page. As NBC personnel attempted to restore the pages, the hackers struck again, defacing the pages again. The messages included the words, “User info exposed, passwords dumped.” Also attacked was performer Lady Gaga’s fan site. She tweeted to her fans, “Sorry for the downtime everyone. will be right back!” Asked by one fan whether their passwords were safe, Lady Gaga replied, “Yes.”
