It was another very good week for NBC. For the seventh week in a row, it wound up as No. 1 among the key 18-49 age group. Its ratings soared in larger measure because of the presidential election. Not only did its coverage beat every other network’s in the ratings, but it also pushed the “results” episode of its hit music contest The Voice to Wednesday night, boosting its ratings on that night. Among total adults, NBC’s ratings were up 30 percent from the comparable week a year ago; among the 18-49 demo they were up 37 percent. Every other network continued to show a downturn. NBC’s Sunday Night Football (Houston vs. Chicago) remained the most-watched television show of the week among total viewers (20.86 million) and the demo. CBS’s The Big Bang Theory, with 16.68 million came in second in both categories. Somewhat surprisingly, despite interest in the presidential election, ratings for both the NBC and ABC evening newscasts were down slightly from the comparable week a year ago. NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams drew 9.1 million viewers. ABC World News with Diane Sawyer came in second with 8.3 million. However, The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley saw its audience rise 10 percent among total viewers (and 5 percent among the 18-49 set) with 7.1 million viewers. Overall, CBS remain the most-watched network with an average household rating of 6.0 and a 10 share. NBC placed second with a 5.4/9, followed by ABC with a 5.1/8. Fox trailed with a 3.8/6.

Election Coverage, NBC, 7.3/10; 10. Modern Family, ABC, 7.3/11.
