PORN MOVIES TO JOIN RUNAWAY PRODUCTIONS AFTER VOTE

A ballot measure, approved by Los Angeles County voters on Tuesday, that requires condom use by actors appearing in pornographic films as well as health permits will likely drive production to adjoining counties. Daily Variety observed today (Thursday) that the porn industry employs about 10,000 people and represents about $1 billion in sales in the county. In an interview with the trade publication, Steve Hirsch, founder and co-chairman of Vivid Entertainment, which shoots about 60 films per year with budgets of $50,000 to $300,000 each, said that his company has already developed a plan to move production. And while porn represents a relatively small part of the film industry, Paul Audley, president of FilmL.A., which co-ordinates the issuing of film permits in the county, told Variety: “We don’t want to see any part of the film industry leaving L.A. … It’s not good for the economy to have this sector further injured.”
