The Dark Knight may have risen again in the third quarter, but the cost of a ticket to see it did not — since it was in old-fashioned 2D, without the tacked-on surcharge. And largely because it was the biggest hit of the third quarter ($185 million domestically), the average ticket price for the quarter fell 4 percent to $7.94, down from $8.02 during the first half of 2012, according to Daily Variety, The trade publication noted, however, that average ticket prices are likely to rise in the fourth quarter given the number of potential 3D blockbusters that will be released in December, including Life of Pi, Rise of the Guardians and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
