RATINGS SINK ON SUNDAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS
It was a quiet Sunday before Christmas, with only football posting decent numbers and everything else (mostly reruns) virtually ignored. NBC’s Sunday Night Football (San Francisco vs Seattle) averaged 15.38 million viewers, but that was down 33.7 percent from the previous week when viewership soared to 23.2 million. Earlier in the evening, an overrun of the New York Giants/Baltimore Ravens game on CBS averaged 16.25 million viewers. ABC issued a news release this morning (Monday) noting that its 4-hour annual revival of The Sound of Music posted ratings that were 22 percent higher than a year ago. The movie got off to a poor start at 7:00 p.m., when it averaged just 3.14 million viewers, but audiences drifted to it steadily over the four-hour length, and by the time the last half-hour drifted by, 6.22 million were watching.
