RATINGS VICTORY A SLAM DUNK FOR ABC ON XMAS DAY
Spending Christmas Day watching five basketball games may sound a bit excessive to some, but apparently millions of viewers did just that on Tuesday as two NBA games on ABC and three on sibling cable channel ESPN drew big ratings during the day and well into primetime. The second half of an NBA doubleheader on ABC captured 8.44 million viewers and made for a powerful lead-in to two Dr. Seuss holiday specials, Horton Hears a Who and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Those programs’ 18-49-year-old viewers far exceeded the number watching rival programs. But CBS still managed to stay on top among total adults — even with mostly repeat programming. A rerun of CBS’s NCIS was the most-watched show of the night with 9.74 million viewers.
