James Blunt, the former British army officer-turned-singer, has reached an out-of-court settlement with Rupert Murdoch’s News International after learning that his voicemail had been hacked by the now defunct News of the World. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but his lawyer said today (Tuesday) that Blunt had accepted “substantial” damages. He added that Blunt “has always been security conscious, in the knowledge that he was in telephone contact with serving members of the armed services who were on operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.” Blunt is the 23rd person to settle a lawsuit related to the phone hacking. At least 155 other cases involving celebrities and politicians are still pending.
