Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln continued to pile up the awards nominations today (Thursday), picking up seven Golden Globes nods — more than any other film of 2012. Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained and Ben Affleck’s Argo tied for second place with five nominations each. All three films received best film nominations in the drama category as did Ang Lee’s Life of Pi and Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty. The directors of each of those films also received nominations. In the music/comedy category the best-film nominees were The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Les Miserables, Moonrise Kingdom, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, and Silver Linings Playbook. There were few surprises. The biggest perhaps was the exclusion of Les Miserables‘ Tom Hooper from the list of nominees of best directors of a comedy or musical and the exclusion of the critically praised (it won the Grand Jury prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival) Beasts of the Southern Wild
