Despite the best efforts of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to prevent “for your consideration” screeners sent to members in advance of Oscar voting, many have already been leaked on BitTorrent websites, according to, which tracks BitTorrent usage. According to the website, a screener for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained was leaked on Saturday and in its first 24 hours was downloaded 500,000 times. The availability of a high-quality screener of the movie came just one week after The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey turned up; it is now the current pirated champ with more than 2 million downloads recorded as of Sunday, the website said. “It appears to make very little difference what kind of security measures are put in place, movies still leak online,” TorrentFreak commented, noting that screeners for such other Oscar contenders as Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty, Hitchcock and The Sessions have also been leaked on BitTorrent sites.
