On Fortune magazine’s annual list of the nation’s 100 best employers, released today (Thursday), only one Hollywood studio was included: DreamWorks Animation. The Jeffrey Katzenberg-led company, with 2,350 employees, has made the list, which is compiled in cooperation with the Great Places to Work Institute, for the past five years. This year it ranked 12th, up from 14th a year ago. (It actually ranked sixth in 2010.) In a statement, DWA’s head of human resources, Dan Satterthwaite, said: “We see this recognition as a validation of how and why DreamWorks Animation continues to attract talent from around the world, making us a top employer in Los Angeles, in California, and in the U.S.” Fortune said that employees at 280 firms, with a total of 277,000 employees, took part in the survey. Results included only the top 100, with Google again topping the list as it has for the past three years. It could not be determined whether other Hollywood studios failed to make the list because they did receive favorable reviews from their employees or because they did not agree to be surveyed.
