DURING SUPER BOWL POWER OUTAGE, VIEWERS WAITED — AND TWEETED

Apparently the half-hour interruption of Sunday night’s Super Bowl game did not result in a mass exodus of viewers to other programming. What many of those viewers did instead was … tweet. According to TheVerge.com, the power outage generated 231,000 tweets per minute, well above Jacoby Jones’s record-tying 108-yard kickoff return (it was originally described as 109 yards, which would have established a new record) at the start of the second half, with 185,000 tweets per minute, edging out the conclusion of the game — 183,000. But all of those tweets related to the game itself were surpassed by the 268,000 tweets per second that were touched off during Beyoncé’s remarkable halftime show.
