IS MATT LAUER IN JEOPARDY? MAYBE

March 15, 2013 by · 1 Comment

On the same day that the New York Times featured a front-page report indicating that some NBC executives believe that Matt Lauer’s declining popularity may be at the root of the Today show’s ratings plunge and that his contract won’t be renewed in 2014, Lauer himself said that those involved with the show “want to go back to [being] the most-watched morning program and the least-talked about morning program.” At a presentation to advertisers, NBC Universal News chairman Pat Fili-Krushel appeared to give Lauer her unconditional support, saying that the network is “really pleased with the direction” that the morning show has taken. But RadarOnline quoted a source as saying that the Today show’s “staff doesn’t like to see Matt lose his job, but it’s time for a change. It’s just too bad that the network fumbled the entire situation with [former co-host] Ann [Curry] and Matt.” And today’s New York Post reported that Lauer tops the list of possible replacements for Alex Trebek on Jeopardy if and when Trebek steps down next year.
