NCIS BACK ON TOP OF WEEKLY RATINGS
With football no longer a factor in the ratings and American Idol continuing to bleed viewers, CBS had little difficulty completely dominating the Nielsen list of most-watched TV shows last week. The long-running NCIS pushed past the 20-million viewer level to place first in the ratings and was followed by its companion drama NCIS: Los Angeles with 17 million viewers. The Wednesday edition of Fox’s American Idol landed in third place with 13.3 million viewers, followed by CBS’s venerable news magazine 60 Minutes with 12 million. The only other non-CBS show in the top ten was ABC’s Castle with 7.9 million viewers. The series premiere of CBS’s Golden Boy also made the top ten — also with 7.9 million viewers. Once again, NBC’s shows finished out of the money. Its highest-rated show, Chicago Fire finished tied at No. 32 with 6.6 million viewers. However, its NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams remained on top among the evening newscasts with an average of 9 million viewers. ABC World News with Diane Sawyer was close behind with 8.5 million viewers, while the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley placed third with 6.9 million. For the week overall, CBS led with an average 5.9 household rating and a 10 share, followed by Fox with a 4.0/6. ABC was close behind with a 3.9/6, while NBC remained a distant fourth with a 2.7/4.
