Fox’s American Idol continues to win by losing. Its audience on Thursday slipped to 12.5 million viewers — a fraction of its total just a few years ago — but that number still exceeded everything else on television Thursday night. That “everything else” included mostly reruns on the other networks, suggesting that Idol ought to have had an easier time scoring its victory. As it was, however, it actually drew more viewers a week ago when it faced original programming. But Fox was not the only network to see its ratings slip. Struggling NBC continued to draw tiny numbers. Worst of them: 1600 Penn 5 and Parks and Recreation, each of which drew just 2.2 million viewers.
