ZUCKER ANNOINTS TAPPER: “THE FACE OF THE NEW CNN”

Apparently eager to establish himself as the designer of a new CNN, Jeff Zucker on Monday referred to his first big hire, Jake Tapper, as “the face of the new CNN.” Speaking at a New York party honoring the launch of Tapper’s new program, The Lead, on CNN, Zucker, the recently appointed head of the cable news channel, expressed confidence that hiring Tapper away from ABC “was the right thing … to take CNN into our next place, into our next century. … This is the start of an incredible new era.” Zucker’s comments do doubt touched off anxious discussions among Tapper’s colleagues like Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer, who might have fancied themselves as the face of CNN, not to mention Chris Cuomo whom Zucker also recently brought aboard.
