She may now only attract a fraction of the audience she once did on her syndicated talk show, but Oprah Winfrey can still score the big “get.” Her OWN cable network announced on Wednesday that Winfrey will interview NBA player Jason Collins on her Oprah’s Next Chapter show this Sunday, May 5. It will mark Collins’s first TV interview since he became the first athlete active in a major American sport to reveal that he is gay. Also scheduled to appear on the program are other members of Collins’s family, including his twin brother. The announcement by OWN said that during the interview, Collins will reflect “on the worldwide reaction following his decision to reveal that he is a gay man and how he hopes his story will further the conversation around equality.” But “gets” are not getting the audience they once did. Diane Sawyer’s interview with accused killer Amanda Knox on ABC Tuesday captured just 8 million viewers. “Ultimately,” said the Washington Post, “the Knox interview was one of Sawyer’s lower-rated ‘gets.'”
