Randy Jackson, a fixture as a judge on American Idol for the past 12 years, disclosed on Thursday that he will depart at the end of this season. His announcement came days after reports appeared suggesting that Fox intends to introduce a panel of superstar judges next season. Early in the day, Jackson sent an email to a number of entertainment websites saying, “Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season.” He added, “I’m very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life-changing opportunity.” He made a similar statement on Thursday’s installment of Idol. Jackson’s departure will leave only Ryan Seacrest as an original member of the American Idol cast.
