34.2 MILLION WATCH FINAL MOMENTS OF NBA FINAL

More than with any other sport, the final minutes of a basketball game generally are the most exciting and attract the most viewers. Indeed if Thursday night’s final hour of Game 7 of this year’s NBA Finals, which saw the Miami Heat defeat the San Antonio Spurs by a score of 95-98, had been played in primetime on the East Coast, it would have produced one of the biggest ratings of the year. As it was, in primetime, it averaged 26.3 million viewers, certainly enough to make it the most-viewed program of the evening (and the week), but millions of viewers swarmed to the ABC Sports telecast after primetime ended at 11:00 p.m., and during the 11:30-11:45 quarter hour they numbered 34.2 million.
