Univision’s news division has announced a partnership with Penske Media Corp., which owns Variety, to air a daily feature on the Hispanic broadcast network focusing on Hispanic celebrities in U.S. movies and television shows. The feature is scheduled to air as a 2.5-minute segment on Univision’s daily Primer Impacto (First Impact) magazine show. In a statement, the companies said that the feature will be produced by Penske Media “out of its Los Angeles studios.” Entering video production on a daily basis would seem to mark a first for Penske Media, which has been actively acquiring online entertainment properties. (It acquired Nikki Finke’s in June 2009 and Variety in October 2012.) While the company features a page on its website titled “studio operations,” it would seem to have offered few if any video features produced at its studio on its Variety site.
