In most parts of the country, school vacation hasn’t even begun for kids, who generally dominate ticket sales for Hollywood blockbusters, but movie theaters were crowded on Monday and Tuesday, with Warner Bros.’ Man of Steel in particular doing the kind of business that many studios would have been grateful for on a weekend. According to, Man of Steel collected $12.6 million on Monday and an additional $11.5 million on Tuesday for a total of $24.1 million for the two days. That brought the total for the Superman movie to $152.8 million for five days (including the Walmart screenings on Thursday). The Sony comedy This Is the End also performed solidly on Monday and Tuesday, taking in $3.4 million on each day to lift its total to $40 million. Also on Tuesday Disney/Marvel’s Iron Man 3 crossed the $400-million mark in domestic sales.
