It was another slam dunk for ABC’s coverage of the NBA finals as Game 5 of the series averaged 14.16 million viewers, peaking in the 10:00 p.m. half-hour with 16.28 million. The game between he Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs not only was No. 1 in every half hour but it at least averaged more viewers than all of the other network shows combined and during the 10:00 p.m. hour it nearly doubled the combined ratings of its rivals. The overrun of the U.S. Open Golf Championship on NBC at 7:00 p.m. also took a commanding lead over the other network broadcasts, as it averaged 11.32 million viewers. But NBC’s coverage of the Miss USA Pageant turned out to be a dud, averaging 4.56 million viewers, about 1.5 million fewer than those who tuned in to Game 5 a year ago.
