CBS will remain on Time Warner Cable systems until at least Monday. The two sides said late Wednesday that they had agreed to extend their current contract until at least 5:00 p.m. ET on Monday so that they could continue their negotiations over a new deal. The extension appeared to suggest that the talks had not reached the point of stalemate. Meanwhile, Time Warner appeared to be taking a cue from BTIG analyst Richard Greenfield, who observed that the provider could auction CBS’s prized channel position (channel 2 in New York and Los Angeles) to another cable network if negotiations break down. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Maureen Huff, a spokeswoman for Time Warner Cable, said Wednesday that “if CBS goes dark, they will likely lose their space on the [channel] lineup.” She added: “Broadcasters don’t have a birthright to any specific” channel number.
