CHECK OUT MOVIES ONLINE FREE FROM YOUR PUBLIC LIBRARY

Patrons of many public libraries are able to download ebooks on their smartphones or tablets, saving them the hassle of driving to the library and checking them out. Now a company called Hoopla wants to help libraries do the same thing with movies, TV shows and audio books. On Wednesday, Hoopla debuted its service in Seattle; Charlotte/Mecklenburgh, NC; Columbus, OH; Toledo, OH; Harford, MD, Salt Lake City; Los Angeles; Orange County, CA; Hamilton, Ontario; and Edmonton, Alberta. Holders of library cards in each of those areas will be able to download movies for free (the copies self-destruct after a certain period). In the case of ebooks, libraries generally limit the number of rentals at a given time to the number of copies that they have actually purchased. There was no indication whether that restriction will also apply to movies and TV shows borrowed via the Hoopla system.
