In a ratings rarity, there was a virtual three-way tie for first place in the Nielsen ratings for total adults last week. Topping the list were Fox’s coverage of baseball’s All-Star Game, the Wednesday (9:00 p.m.) edition of NBC’s America’s Got Talent and CBS’s summer hit, the miniseries Under the Dome. Each show ended up with around 11.1 million viewers, the differences between them so small as to be statistically insignificant. They also wound up in the first three positions (in the order listed above) among 18-49 year-olds — although the differences in the ratings were somewhat more pronounced. It should be noted that the list of 18-49 year-old viewers also included in seventh and tenth places, episodes of the Univision telenovela (a kind of limited soap opera) Amores Verdaderos. The evening newscasts continued to line up in the usual order with NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams leading with 7.7 million viewers, followed by ABC World News with Diane Sawyer with 7.0 million and the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley trailing with 6.0 million. Overall, CBS remained the most-watched network for the week with a 3.7 rating and a 6 share. NBC placed second with a 2.9/5, edging out Fox with a 2.7/5. ABC trailed with a 2.5/4.

Big Brother 15 (Thursday), CBS, 4.2/7; 10. (Tie) NCIS: Los Angeles, CBS, 4.2/7; 10. (Tie) Two and a Half Men, CBS, 4.2/7. [NOTE: In a ratings anomaly, the Wednesday edition of America’s Got Talent actually drew the most viewers, but since more people were watching television on Wednesday and since ratings represent a percentage of those viewers, it was ranked third by Nielsen.]
