CBS’s Stephen King/Steven Spielberg miniseries Under the Dome clearly became the hit of the summer last week as it topped the Nielsen ratings list for the third week in a row among total adults. The telecast attracted 10.7 million viewers and helped CBS remain the top-ranked television network, despite the fact that it aired mostly reruns during the week. Among 18-49-year-old viewers, however, the Wednesday installment of NBC’s America’s Got Talent edged out Under the Dome. Strikingly, Spanish-language Univision ranked highest in both the 18-49 demo and the 18-34 demo, placing nine of the top 20 shows on the Nielsen list, thanks mostly to the popularity of its limited-run soap opera (or “telenovela”) Amores Verdaderos (True Love). The ongoing coverage of the unrest in Egypt and the George Zimmerman trial did not appear to boost ratings for the networks’ evening newscasts. NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams boasted 7.8 million viewers; ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, 6.9 million; and the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley, 5.9 million. For the week, CBS led overall with a 3.5 household rating and a 6 share. NBC took second place with a 2.9/5. ABC came in third with a 2.5/4, while Fox trailed with a 2.0/4.
