It now seems likely that Spanish-language network Univision will beat all the English-language networks in the July ratings in both the 18-49 and 18-34 age groups — the demos that advertisers like to target. Variety commented today (Tuesday) that the result will mark a milestone for the network. A Univision victory would be particularly remarkable given the greater number of new shows that the other broadcasters have introduced this summer, a period ordinarily overwhelmed by reruns. But Univision President Cesar Conde told Variety, “Univision has become known for airing first-run primetime programming every night, 365 days each year.” Among total adults, Univision is likely to finish fourth — ahead of Fox.
