Renowned broadcast journalist Herb Kaplow, who spent 21 years at NBC News’s Washington bureau, beginning in 1951, then moved to ABC News, where he spent another 22 years before his retirement, has died at age 86. In a statement noting his passing, ABC President Ben Sherwood said, “With a front row seat to history Herb reported extensively on the civil rights movement including the landmark Brown vs. Board of Education school desegregation decision in 1954.” He covered nineteen presidential conventions and traveled with nine presidents and, said Sherwood, “masterfully brought stories to life.”
