L.A. PORN INDUSTRY TO SHUT DOWN IN WAKE OF HIV SCARE

Free Speech Coalition, a coalition of adult film producers, has called for a moratorium on production of porn films after an unidentified performer tested positive for HIV/AIDS. The group’s announcement offered few details other than saying that it is working with the Adult Production Health & Safety Services, which operates a number of testing sites for sexually transmitted diseases and provides doctors to treat performers and “first- and second-generation partners.” The coalition also said that there was no indication that the performer had been infected on-set. “The moratorium will be lifted once the risk of transmission has been eliminated,” Diane Duke, executive director of FSC, told the Associated Press on Wednesday. Under a law passed last year, male porn performers are required to wear condoms, but porn-industry critics have maintained that the law is not being observed and that authorities are making no effort to enforce it.
