Bruno Mars, who has had five No. 1 singles and six top-ten singles since his career as a solo performer took off in 2010, has been selected to headline the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVIII on Feb. 2 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Mars confirmed repeated rumors that he had been chosen when he tweeted to his fans early today (Sunday): “WE’RE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!!!!! #PepsiSBHalftime.” In a brief career timespan, the Hawaii-born 27-year-old has become one of the top recording stars of the day. In 2011 his “Just the Way You Are” sold 12.5 million copies and won a Grammy award for best male pop vocal. At last month’s MTV Video Music Awards, his “Locked Out of Heaven” was voted Best Male Video. Mars will follow Beyonce, who received much critical praise for her performance at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans.
