ONE DIRECTION BIG IN U.K., BUT NOT BIGGER THAN BOND

Two weeks ago, British bookmakers Ladbrokes were offering 4-1 odds that the concert documentary, One Direction: This Is Us, featuring the boy band One Direction, would break the British box-office record of $160 million set by the James Bond movie Skyfall last year. That prediction may have set off a flurry of betting, despite the low odds, but it came nowhere near approaching reality. As it was, the film opened with a solid $5.4 million. That put it ahead of Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, which kicked off with $1.28 million but far behind the Michael Jackson concert film This Is It, which kicked off in 2009 with $7.62 million.
