SNOWDEN PAPERS: NSA SPIED ON AL JAZEERA

The National Security Agency (NSA) spied on the internal communications of Qatar-based Al Jazeera, according to the latest documents released by former NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden to Germany’s Der Spiegel news magazine. The documents revealed that the NSA was able to read communications by NSA sources, who were referred to in the NSA documents as “interesting targets.” The magazine concluded: “Previous documents seen by Spiegel have not specified that the media were spied on by the NSA. But as more information emerges, the massive scope of the organization’s international surveillance of telephone and Internet communication continues to grow.” Meanwhile, Al Jazeera today (Tuesday) accused the Egyptian government of jamming its signals for the past seven weeks. The government did not deny the accusation, saying that it has received “hundreds of claims that they (Al Jazeera) are inciting people, they are misleading them and fabricating reports.”
