The summer theatrical blockbusters have begun landing on the shelves of home-video retailers and on the lists of online renters and kiosk operators. Paramount’s Star Trek Into Darkness debuted at No. 1 on the DVD, Blu-ray Disc, and rental charts for last week, according to Nielsen VideoScan First Alert, which tracks sales, and Home Media magazine, which tracks rentals. Demonstrating the increasing preference of home-media consumers for the high-definition Blu-ray Disc format, the charts indicated that 72 percent of total sales of the movie represented Blu-ray Disc purchases. The Star Trek film bumped Lionsgate’s Now You See Me to second place on all three charts. The sixth season of CBS’s The Big Bang Theory, produced by Warner Bros. TV, debuted in third place on the sales chart, followed by Fox’s animated Epic and Lionsgate’s Peeples, which flopped in its theatrical release.
