AMC GETS A BIG BREAK FROM BREAKING BAD FINALE

Cable network AMC not only scored more viewers than anyone thought possible for the series finale of Breaking Bad — 10.3 million according to preliminary figures — but it also hauled in an unheard-of amount of advertising dollars for the show. According to Advertising Age, AMC was able to charge as much as $400,000 for a 30-second spot in the episode, about the same amount that is commanded for a spot on such hit broadcast-network shows as Modern Family and American Idol. Spots on previous episodes of Break Bad had been going for around $130,000 to $140,000, the trade publication said. Nevertheless, the figure does not come close to the fees charged by the broadcast networks for top-rated series finales. Ad Age said that a 30-second spot on the final episode of Lost fetched $900,000.
