DVD SELLERS WAKE WITH A HANGOVER

Warner Bros.’ The Hangover Part III and DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods wound up in a virtual photo-finish on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, which tracks DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales, for last week, but Hangover won by a nose. Home Media magazine reported that in its second week The Croods sold 99 percent as many units as Hangover. The sales chart does not disclose the actual numbers sold or how much was paid for them. On the separate Blu-ray Disc sales chart, Disney’s Diamond Edition of the 1989 handdrawn The Little Mermaid remained No. 1 for the second consecutive week, while the Hangover Part III debuted in second place. On Home Media magazine’s rental chart for the week, Sony’s After Earth, starring Will Smith and son Jaden debuted at No. 1. It will need strong video sales after a disappointing performance in theaters earlier this year.
