In announcing on Thursday that it will air a second season of Sleepy Hollow, Fox TV said on Thursday that the premiere episode that aired on Monday, Sept. 30 was watched by 22.7 million viewers once DVR, video-on-demand and streaming on the Fox and Hulu websites were taken into consideration. “The show has proven to be a risk well worth taking – it’s a conceptual blast unlike anything else on television and it all holds together with inventive writing and a fantastic cast,” said Fox Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly. “I can’t wait for fans to experience what else is in store for this fall and even more of this wild ride into Season Two.” In the series, a resurrected Ichabod Crane teams up with a female police lieutenant 200 years after his death to do battle with the Headless Horseman. A typical critical reaction was that of the San Francisco Chronicle‘s David Wiegand, who wrote: “Suspend disbelief, not to mention your knowledge of Washington Irving’s classic tale, because the illogical hodgepodge of myth … is great fun.”
