Another week, another summer blockbuster at the top of the DVD and Blu-ray sales charts. This week it’s the summer’s biggest box-office hit, Disney’s Iron Man 3. The only question left unanswered is how long will the film, which earned $409 million domestically remain at the top of the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart. What did surprise is that the movie entered Home Media magazine’s rental charts at No. 2, behind last week’s winner, Paramount’s zombie thriller World War Z. Since studios release no dollar sales information about home video sales, it could not be determined what sort of a lead Iron Man 3 commanded in sales or World War Z in rentals. The top five films on the sales list lined up this way: 1. Iron Man 3, Disney; 2. World War Z, Paramount; 3. Star Trek Into Darkness, Paramount; 4. Redemption, Lionsgate; and 5. The Great Gatsby, Warner Bros.
