Netflix, which is already in the business of producing television-type programs such as House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black, is about to begin producing feature films as well. In an interview with the British trade publication Screen Daily, Netflix CFO David Wells said that he “would keep my mind wide open to what those films would be and what they would look like.” Wells indicated that if Netflix produced its own theatrical films it could make them available to subscribers earlier than it can today — when some films aren’t available even a year after their original theatrical release. “Even though that window is moving, I don’t know if it is moving aggressively enough … so I think that the more we [are] aggressive with windowing, by taking more control over the content earlier in the process, that would be good for our members,” Wells said.
