THE CROODS DEBUTS ON HOME VIDEO AT NO. 1

Continuing the march of summer theatrical blockbusters to the top of the home-video sales charts, DreamWorks Animation/20th Century Fox’s The Croods, which collected $585 million worldwide in movie houses, took over the No. 1 spot on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart for the week ended Oct. 6. Somewhat surprisingly, it was not the top-selling Blu-ray Disc release, however. That distinction fell to Disney’s 24-year-old The Little Mermaid. Another classic animated feature, the 1937 Wizard of Oz, distributed by Warner Bros. Home Video, returned to the home video chart at No. 5 in a new 75th anniversary package. On Home Media magazine’s rental chart, This Is the End debuted in first place, pushing the prior week’s top rental, Paramount’s World War Z, to No. 3, while Iron Man 3 remained at No. 2.
