In limited release, Paramount’s critically praised Nebraska, starring Bruce Dern, opened strongly in two theaters in New York and two in L.A., where it earned $140,401, or $35,000 per theater. Overseas, the box office was somewhat more robust than it was domestically as Thor: The Dark World continued to hammer the competition with $52.5 million in 70 markets to bring its international take to $332.8 million and its worldwide total to $477.9 million. At the same time, Gravity, playing in 63 markets, passed the $500 million mark worldwide with a total of $514.9 million.
