In what the Huffington Post dubiously trumpeted as “easily one of the most unexpected and shocking moments in reality television history,” The Biggest Loser host Alison Sweeney revealed on Tuesday’s broadcast that Jillian Michaels had given her team caffeine supplements without a doctor’s permission, a violation of the contest’s rules. As punishment, each member of Michaels’s team was given a four-pound penalty, one pound per member, “and the eliminated player will return.” The eliminated player was former American Idol winner Ruben Studdard. Michaels was unrepentant. “I stand by my opinion, a caffeine supplement is significantly healthier than unlimited amounts of coffee,” she said, sidestepping the issue that dispensing caffeine supplements represents a violation of the show’s rules.
