KATZENBERG AND SPIELBERG TEAM UP AGAIN TO SUPPORT MUSEUM

Former DreamWorks partners Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg have each contributed $10 million to the planned Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Their gifts were acknowledged on Tuesday by Academy Museum campaign chairman Robert Iger, who is also the chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney Co. “Steven and Jeffrey share a passion for moviemaking and philanthropy,” Iger said in a statement. “With these incredibly generous gifts, they are combining the two, moving us closer to our goal of building a museum to preserve the history of motion pictures and inspire the next generation of filmmakers.” Fundraising, however, still has a long way to go. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has been seeking to raise $300 million for the museum but after nearly two years has secured slightly more than half that amount. Somewhat ironically, the biggest gift so far has come not from Hollywood but from China, whose Dalian Wanda Group donated $20 million.
