In a unique arrangement for two television stations in the same market owned by two different companies, Ellis Communications-owned KDOC, based in Orange County but calling itself LA56, will begin airing a nightly one-hour newscast produced exclusively for the station by Disney-owned KABC-TV beginning in January. In a statement, KDOC President and Genera Manager John Manzi said, “One of our goals at LA56 has always been to air a primetime newscast; and, now, we have a partnership with the number-one news station in the L.A. market. We could not be more excited to work with ABC7.” There was no indication whether the newscast would focus on news events occurring in Orange County. In addition to the exclusive newscast at 8:00, KDOC said it will also repeat KABC’s 11:00 newscast at midnight.
