Raising anew the question of how far political attack ads ought to go ethically, the New York Times has disclosed that a TV ad produced by the conservative Koch brothers-backed Americans for Prosperity used an actress living in Maryland to pose as an Alaskan voter condemning Democratic Senator Mark Begich for supporting Obamacare. “I trusted the president and Senator Begich,” the actress says in the TV ad, which was slated to begin airing Wednesday in Alaska, where Begich is running for reelection. “Now millions are losing their health care. … Senator Begich didn’t listen. How can I ever trust him again? It just isn’t fair. Alaska deserves better.” The Times disclosed that the woman is Maryland native Connie Bowman, who has appeared in several commercials. “I’m just an actress,” she acknowledged.
