CRACKDOWN ON CAMCORDING IN UK THEATERS HAS MIXED RESULTS

Although the British anti-piracy group FACT (Federation Against Copyright Theft) has blown the whistle on “more than a dozen” persons attempting to use camcorders and other devices to record movies in theaters since April, only five of the “cammers” were actually arrested and not one has been prosecuted, according to TorrentFreak.com, which tracks BitTorrent activity. FACT has posted notices advising theater workers that there is a £500 reward (about $800) for any person who: 1. Identifies a person recording a movie in a theater; 2. Notifies police; 3. Stops the recording; 4. Files a police report; and 5. Contacts FACT within 24 hours of the incident. About 15 theater employees will each receive the reward this year, FACT said.
