Blockbuster, which is shutting down the remainder of its stores early next year, has already launched a going-out-of-business sale, according to Home Media magazine. On Friday, it began offering three DVDs for $10. It is selling individual movies at discounts of 70 percent, and used discs that had been priced at $14.99 are now going for $3.99. Blockbuster exec Mitch Weinraub said in a statement that the movie-rental company, now owned by DISH, is hoping to take advantage of an expected big jump in sales of game consoles and HDTVs over the holiday. “Once the wrapping comes off, it’s time to put those great gifts to use,” he said. “Whether shoppers are looking to complement a big gift, need an affordable stocking stuffer or are starting a family holiday movie night tradition, Blockbuster has an array of options at a great price.”
