GOODBYE KATIE — AGAIN

On Thursday ABC, which is syndicating her daily talk show, said that it will shut down production of Katie Couric’s show next June. While its ratings have been regarded as decent, they have not been high enough to justify the hefty fees that stations have been required to pay for it — fees made necessary by lavish compensation doled out to Couric and her producers. Couric was reportedly taking home $20 million per season. Moreover, those who did watch the show were older consumers who were not attractive to advertisers. The announcement that the show would end comes just weeks after Yahoo! had signed a deal with Couric that made her its “global anchor.”
