OSCAR CONTENDER HER HAS SOLID DEBUT

Among films opening in limited release this weekend, Spike Jonze’s critically acclaimed Her, starring Joaquin Phoenix as a man who falls in love with his computer’s operating system. The film, which opened on Wednesday, collected $361,473 over the five days, or an average of $43,000 per ticket. The Past, from Iranian director Asghar Farhadi also had a solid debut in the U.S., taking in $30,942 from three theaters, or an average of $10,214 per theater. Meanwhile Inside Llewyn Davis expanded to 148 theaters in its third week, grossing $1.1 million or $7,432 per theater.
