PYTHON WON’T DO RELIGIOUS JOKES ANY MORE: MICHAEL PALIN

Today Monty Python’s 1979 film The Life of Brian, which satirizes the life of Jesus, is regarded as a comedy classic, but one member of the famous British comedy group believes it would be difficult to make such a film today. On the eve of a Python reunion, Michael Palin told the London Daily Mail, “I don’t think we could do Life of Brian any more. A parody of Islam would be even harder. We all saw what happened to Salman Rushdie [who was the object of a fatwa calling for his death] and none of us want to get into all that. It’s a pity but that’s the way it is. There are people out there without a sense of humor and they’re heavily armed.”
