WAS “HUSH MONEY” PAID TO EX-FOX EXEC TO KEEP SILENT ABOUT AILES?

A former right-hand man to Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes has received $8 million from Fox, allegedly to secure his silence. Brian Lewis, who was fired in August for “financial irregularities” as well as “multiple, material and significant breaches of his employment contract,” was reportedly feeding volatile information about the channel’s operations to Gabe Sherman, who has been writing an unauthorized autobiography of Ailes titled The Loudest Voice in the Room: How Roger Ailes and Fox News Remade American politics. The website Gawker.com, citing an insider who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the payment to Lewis as “hush money.” “That whole financial impropriety thing was complete b***s***,” the insider said. “Everything was about Gabe Sherman.” But Lewis’s attorney, Judd Burstein, said late on Monday that Lewis “no longer has any confidentiality obligation to News Corp or Roger Ailes because of the false and malicious statements made by Fox to date. Second, Roger Ailes and News Corp have a lot more to fear from Brian Lewis telling the truth about them than Brian Lewis has to fear from Roger Ailes and his toadies telling lies about Brian Lewis.”
