Long in the works, the WWE Network is set to debut on February 24. But it will not be coming to cable or satellite TV. The network will be streamed online for $9.99 a month and will include all of the WWE’s pay-per-view shows, or, in the words of the press release, “live and scheduled content with an on-demand library of thousands of hours of content.” Although the announcement seemed to imply that original broadcasts of Raw and Smackdown, which air on the USA Network, will be included in the package, it appears they will not; however, older episodes of the two shows apparently will be included. The WWE Network website also plans to sell tickets to live events and set up a store for selling souvenirs and other merchandise. Reporting on the WWE’s plans, AdWeek commented, “This new experiment will demonstrate exactly how well a single fandom can support a single stream of content.”
